Questions To Ask Before Your First Visit

Before you book, ask how long the first visit is and what it includes, what follow-ups cost, whether there is a sliding scale or package, whether cupping or herbs are extra, and how you can pay. The answers decide what you actually spend.

Questions To Ask

  1. How long is the first visit, and what is included?

Of the 47 clinics we list, 35 post a visit length next to at least one price. If yours does not, ask how long the first visit runs and whether the intake is part of the price.

  2. Is the first visit priced differently from follow-ups?

At 34 of the 35 clinics that post both, the first visit costs more than a follow-up. Ask what a follow-up costs so you can plan past the first visit.

  3. Is the price fixed, or is there a sliding scale?

10 of the 47 clinics we list post a sliding scale, where you choose a price within a range. Ask how theirs works.

  4. Are cupping, herbs or other services extra?

Some clinics say cupping is part of an acupuncture visit. Others post a separate price, and some say herbs cost extra on top of a consult. Ask before your visit so the total is not a surprise.

  5. Do you offer packages?

12 clinics we list post a package price. Ask whether a package lowers the per-visit price and whether it expires.

  6. Can I use insurance, a superbill or an HSA or FSA card?

16 clinics we list say they give a superbill and 9 clinics say they take HSA or FSA cards. Check with your own plan too.

  7. What is the cancellation policy?

Ask how much notice you need to give and whether a missed visit is charged.

  8. Are you taking new patients, and how soon can I get in?

Wait times change week to week, so this one is always worth a call.
